It’s hard to believe Cloudwater are only 3 years old this Wednesday. They rapidly became one of the shining lights in the UK craft beer scene and recently received the accolade of second best brewery in the world according to Ratebeer. Not bad for a 3 year old, eh? When I was 3, I couldn’t even spell “beer”…
In what seems to be tradition now, following on from last year’s Birthday DIPA (highly rated by those lucky enough to get their hands on it), a brand new Birthday DIPA has just been released to celebrate their third birthday.
The new 8.5% ABV Birthday DIPA features new season Citra, and the recipe has been tweaked since last time around. What’s changed? For one, it promises to have less hop burn than last year.
The three main tweaks, in their own words:
The hops were split 3g/L in the whirlpool, 3g/L in FV at the start of fermentation, and a 26g/L dry hop via our new hop gun; we added dextrin malt and Golden Naked Oats for body and a clean malt flavour; and switched to New England yeast for maximum joose.
Ingredients
Aroma Hops: Citra, Simcoe, Mosaic, Nelson Sauvin
Bittering Hop: Pilgrim CO2 Alpha Extract
Malts: Golden Promise, Golden Naked Oats, Dextrin, Dextrose
Yeast: New England Lallemand
(Allergens: Gluten, Wheat, Barley, Oats)
Much like last time, it’s a very limited release – it’s available to order now from cloudwaterbrew.co/store. Otherwise, the only other place you’ll be able to grab a can is their Barrel Store. It’ll also be available on draft in assorted craft beer bars across the UK. Definitely one worth keeping an eye out for.
In the meantime, Happy Birthday Cloudwater – here’s to many more boozy, hoppy, wonderful years/beers!
