Zizzi was one of the first high-street restaurants to offer customers a vegan cheese pizza, and now they’re raising the bar with their latest menu addition. Vegans rejoice – it’s a vegan jackfruit pepperoni pizza – a UK first.
Vegan dishes accounted for 2.5% of all meals ordered at Zizzi over the past 12 months. As a result, the Jackfruit Italian Hot, created in partnership with plant-based protein company, Jack & Bry, is the first vegan dish to be permanently added to the Zizzi menu.
The revamped classic features spicy harissa, roquito chili, vegan Mozzarisella, and jackfruit pepperoni. With 70% less fat than traditional pepperoni, the jackfruit meat alternative is also palm oil-free.
“In the last year, we’ve seen vegan dishes become even more popular, so it’s important to us that we adapt some of our classic dishes so that vegans can also enjoy these perennial favourites.
We can’t wait for them to try our first ever jackfruit pepperoni pizza and hear what they think!”
– Kathryn Wilson, Director of Food Development (Zizzi)
The announcement will be welcome news to the estimated 650,000 vegans across Britain, of which 2.9% are thought to have made the switch to be meat-free this year. New research has shown that 42% of Brits believe that a meat-free diet is a healthier option, with 14% adopting a ‘flexitarian’ approach to food in a bid to reduce their meat intake.

Brighton, Norwich, Glasgow and Edinburgh are the most popular Zizzi restaurant locations for customers to order a vegan dish, with sales rising particularly in May following the release of Our Planet on Netflix, which sparked national conversation around the negative impact of climate change.
