Camden Town Brewery have unveiled the world’s first pub for hedgehogs! Well, sort of. They’ve partnered up with the British Hedgehog Preservation Society to help hedgehogs hibernate during these cold winter months.
The change in their environment has seen animals such as hedgehogs arrive much later in the year, meaning they’re not able to eat enough to sleep through the cold winter months, and in urban areas, loss of habitat, dangerous roads and pesticide have all limited hedgehogs’ ability to find a safe space to hibernate.
As a result, Camden Town will be donating a portion of every can of Hells in Hibernation Lager sold to the British Hedgehog Preservation Society (BHPS).
“We are very grateful that Camden Town Brewery is showing support for hedgehogs with its fantastic Hells in Hibernation Lager. Hedgehog populations have declined by half in rural areas and by a third in urban ones in the last 20 years so they need all the help they can get.”
– Fay Vass, Chief Executive (BHPS)
The aptly named, Hibernation Arms, is a hog-sized-hut providing a safe space for hedgehogs to hibernate. It’s a bit like the Winchester Arms – somewhere for the hedgehogs to go to have a have a nice cold pint, and wait for all of this to blow over. Well, maybe not the pints…
These little huts were available to purchase for your garden but have already sold out! Not to worry, you can still help the hedgehogs by buying some beers. As good an excuse as any to get some cans in.
Hells in Hibernation is Camden Town’s third release from their limited-edition Seasonal Hells range, following Harvest Hells (Autumn) and Strawberry Hells Forever (Summer). It’s only around as long as winter is, so don’t miss out – Hells in Hibernation is now available from Sainsbury’s and M&S stores.
