Kilkenny’s first BrewFest takes place this weekend, 22nd & 23rd June in Sullivan’s Taproom – a brand new two-day beer festival showcasing ten of Ireland’s top breweries.
There will be live DJs, a gin bar and some amazing wood-fired pizza. You’ll also have a chance to meet the brewers themselves – and drink lots of awesome beer, of course.

They’ve just announced that all of their beers are now 100% vegan friendly.

Kilkenny has a rich brewing history, most famously known as the home of Ireland’s oldest beer… no, not Guinness… Smithwick’s! The Smithwick’s brewery was founded here in 1710 – acquired by Guinness in 1965, production finally ceased in Kilkenny in 2013. The old brewery is now the home of the Smithwick’s Experience, a tourist attraction.

If you’re in Belfast and you’re interested in craft beer, you’re probably familiar with Farmageddon. If you’re reading this from further afield, Farmageddon are based on a farm in Comber, roughly 10 miles outside Belfast; for the last five years, they’ve been brewing a range of unfiltered, unpasteurised, vegan friendly beers. Coming from a background in homebrewing with a passion for punk rock, their ethos stems from that – self-sufficiency, sustainability and minimizing waste – even the spent grain from the beer making process feeds the pigs on their farm.
