We’re reviewing the entire Northern Powerhouse Brew Series – this is the penultimate beer, after 008, 006, 007, 001, 002 and 003.
Wow. This beer was very much right place, right time. The last two beers had very strong flavours, in their own ways, and packed a big hit so what better than a low ABV sour to mix it up? Well, nothing better as this was the beer of the series.
Absolutely jam (pun intended) packed with forest fruits, the flavour here was over the top but in a way that I would welcome time and time again. It struck a perfect balance between the sweet berries, the lip smacking tartness and I got a little hint of vanilla that married it all together into a wonderfully executed kettle sour. This was an absolute belter.
Magic Rock are a main stay for craft here in the north of England, commanding respect with their consistently excellent core range and their imminent rebranding of their cans is exciting – they’re industry leaders and we expected nothing less this time.
