Tis the season to be jolly! Or at least, time to order your festive beer advent calendars, which you can drink and end up jolly in the run up to Christmas. UK craft beer stalwarts, Beavertown have put together an epic advent calendar for 2019 which we were excited to investigate…
Rules be damned, opening one door of the advent calendar per day… rules are made to be broken, especially where beer is concerned, so we opened the lid and got stuck right in. Don’t look at us like that – how else were we supposed to review it?!
It’s a pretty impressive bundle, all-in. No mega-spoilers but there’s a total of 19 beers and five exclusive merchandise bits’n’bobs. The beers are a mixture of core range, seasonal specials and some mystery one-off stouts made especially for the box; two cans of each beer – with one beer riding solo.
We’re really impressed with the merchandise – it’s well made and most importantly, stuff that you might actually use – unlike a lot of Xmas tat that you’ll accumulate over the next six weeks.
The beer selection is also solid, with old favourites (no prizes for guessing the core range beers) and some big-hitting stouts perfect for the festive season. Once you factor in the value of the merch, you’re looking at £3-ish per can, and bearing in mind there’s some limited edition beers here, it’s good value.
Our only gripe is that there’s two of everything – as a hardcore beer-ticking nerd, opening an advent calendar to find a second can of something we’ve pulled out previously seems a tad underwhelming.
With that in mind, this might not be the best beer advent calendar if you’re buying a gift for an obsessive craft beer aficionado – there are other options out there featuring a wider range of beers from different breweries. On the other hand, if you’re looking for a gift for a massive Beavertown fan – or maybe for someone starting out on their craft beer journey – this is perfect.
If you’d like to know exactly what’s in the box, you can find a spoiler here – and if you’d like to order one, check out the Beavertown webshop.
